Sausalito is located on the southeastern tip of the rolling green hills and coastal mountains of Marin County, California, just across the Golden Gate Bridge north of San Francisco. It is one of the oldest established communities in the Northern San Francisco Bay region.

Sausalito is a colorful waterfront community tucked in the base of the steep hills of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. As a matter of fact, many people describe the town as looking like a Mediterranean village, with its homes crawling up the hillsides, perched over the Bay. Surrounded on three sides by Richardson Bay, Sausalito is known as a water-sport type of town whether it's sea kayaking or sailing. And, its downtown is replete with galleries, boutique hotels, good restaurants, and an ice cream shop or two.
